Job Title: General Technician

Department: Technical

Reports To: Technical Manager

Responsible For: n/a

Rate of Pay: £14/hr (plus holiday pay)

Dates of Work: 27th July - 2nd September 2026

Available Contracts: Working in one of our smaller venues, you will be working on a rota with another Technician in your venue. You will get a minimum of 1 day off per week.


Role

  • Installing and subsequent removal of technical equipment in performance venues.
  • Welcoming visiting companies, assisting with their technical rehearsals, rigging specials and programming where required.
  • Assisting in daily turnarounds between shows.
  • Operating shows as required.
  • Keeping full record of all information pertaining to requirements for shows, including turnaround notes, cue sheets and any other paperwork required.
  • Ensuring that all backstage facilities and equipment are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are adhered to by visiting companies and report any issues to management.

 

Person Specification

  • Experience of working as a technician in either a professional or academic environment.
  • Good knowledge of theatrical technology including rigging, patching, focussing and programming of lighting desks.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety in a theatrical environment
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Comfortable working at height

Underbelly

Underbelly is a UK based live entertainment company. Its festivals and events division produces a number of events annually, including Underbelly at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Underbelly Festival in London.

Underbelly also produce Christmas in Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square in collaboration with Westminster City Council. 

In the West End, Underbelly is currently producing the Olivier award-winning version of Cabaret at The Kit Kat Klub.

Underbelly have recently launched their first permanent venue, Underbelly Boulevard, in the heart of Soho.
