Skate St George’s is Underbelly’s festive event on St George’s Plateau in the heart of Liverpool. The event brings together a seasonal ice rink, Christmas Tree Maze, bars, market traders, rides and other festive attractions to create a major city-centre Christmas destination.
Underbelly is looking for friendly, confident and safety-conscious Ice Rink Marshals to join the team.
Ice Rink Marshals are at the heart of the customer experience, helping visitors enjoy their skating session safely while providing friendly assistance both on and around the ice.
Role Overview
Ice Rink Marshals are responsible for supervising customers using the rink, promoting safe skating and providing assistance where required.
The role will also involve supporting the skate hire operation and other areas of the rink operation throughout each shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and help create a friendly and enjoyable experience.
- Marshal skating sessions from on and around the ice.
- Monitor customer behaviour and intervene appropriately where skating presents a risk to the individual or others.
- Ensure customers follow rink rules and instructions.
- Assist customers who are less confident on the ice.
- Respond quickly to falls, accidents and other incidents, requesting additional assistance where required.
- Support the safe movement of customers onto and off the ice between sessions.
- Assist with fitting, issuing, collecting and storing ice skates.
- Help maintain an organised and efficient skate hire operation.
- Check skates and other equipment for obvious defects and report any concerns.
- Assist with keeping the rink and surrounding areas clean, tidy and presentable.
- Carry out safety and operational checks as directed by the Attractions Manager or Attractions Duty Manager.
- Report hazards, defects, incidents and customer concerns promptly.
- Follow emergency procedures and instructions from event management.
- Provide excellent customer service and answer basic visitor enquiries.
- Work collaboratively with Box Office, Security, Medical and other event teams.
- Follow Underbelly policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the operation of the rink.
Person Specification
Essential
- Confident and competent ice skater.
- Friendly, approachable and confident communicating with members of the public.
- Strong awareness of safety and the ability to identify potentially unsafe behaviour.
- Reliable and punctual with a positive attitude.
- Able to remain calm in a busy environment.
- Happy working outdoors and in cold conditions.
- Able to work evenings, weekends and throughout the Christmas and New Year period as required.
- Comfortable spending significant periods of a shift standing and skating.
Desirable
- Previous experience working at an ice rink.
- Previous customer service, leisure, event or visitor attraction experience.
- First aid qualification.
