Job Title: Press Clippings/Ticketing Assistant

Department: Marketing

Reports To: Press and Publicity Manager 

Rate of Pay: £12.60/hr (plus holiday pay)

Dates of Work: 27 July - 28th August 2025

Hours of Work: Varies from 8am - 8pm, 48 hours per week

Available Contracts: This is a fixed-term contract. You will be expected to work 6 days per week during August. You will receive at least one day off per week.


Reporting to the Press and Publicity Manager, the Press Assistant is an essential cog in Underbelly’s Press Office. You will provide on-the-ground administrative support by carrying out crucial daily press Ticketing and Clippings services as well as being a welcoming representative of Underbelly when performing companies and journalists visit the Press Office for advice throughout the Fringe.

Beyond Press Office, you will communicate with the Programming, Marketing, Social Media and Production teams in order to identify and maximise publicity opportunities for Underbelly’s 150+ shows.

In this role, you will be rota'd on as either Press Clippings Assistant or Press Ticketing Assistant


 

Role

  • Daily monitoring of online, print and broadcast media outlets and social media platforms for all articles featuring Underbelly shows.
  • Compile and circulate press clippings to Underbelly stakeholders, staff, external PRs and visiting companies.
  • Daily delivery (on foot) and display of positive reviews and star ratings for Underbelly shows at all Underbelly venues.
  • Prioritise processing press tickets (in advance and urgent last minute requests) and issue to journalist via ticketing system.
  • Attend Press Launch / Photo Calls and support diary management.
  • Monitor inbox and flag important requests to the Press Manager.
  • Spreadsheet management; collate relevant contacts, track reviews and save all press clippings to Underbelly’s Press archive.
  • The Press Office functions on a daily rota - you may be expected to cover for colleagues when necessary.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required by your line manager.

 

Person specification 
 

Essential 

  • The ability to adapt quickly and prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience of working within the Arts or Entertainment
  • Good computer skills, comfortable navigating spreadsheets / databases / ticketing systems.

Desirable

  • Media Training / relevant qualifications or a keen interest in the industry
  • A background and appreciation of theatre, comedy, music or other forms of art or entertainment
  • Experience of working at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe or an Arts Festival – ideally in a press capacity and/or ticket processing role.
  • Knowledge of Scottish and British National Media organisations

    ABOUT UNDERBELLY

    Underbelly is a UK-based live entertainment company founded in 2000 by Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood that specialises in producing and programming ground-breaking theatrical productions and the creation of city-centre cultural events and festivals across the UK, USA, Asia & beyond.
    Underbelly, alongside ATG Productions, is the lead and originating producer of the Olivier Award winning Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, now in its third year in the West End. Recently Underbelly produced Macbeth starring Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma, The McOnie Company’s Nutcracker at the Tuff Nutt Jazz Club at Southbank Centre, La Clique in Manchester & London, Cabaret Royale at the Gaillard Centre in Charleston and the UK tour of Tweedy’s Massive Circus with Tweedy the Clown.
    Underbelly Boulevard, our first permanent venue, opened in 2023 in the heart of Soho presenting and producing an outstanding variety of cabaret, comedy, circus, music and theatre.
    Current live Events are Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe, Christmas in Leicester Square and Underbelly Festival, previously on London’s Southbank, at Earl’s Court and in Cavendish Square.
    As one of the largest producers at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Underbelly is proud to have previously presented Fleabag in 2013, Six in 2018, Rob Madge’s My Son’s a Queer, (But What Can You Do?) in 2022 and Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder in 2023.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    This role is a freelance or contract-based position supporting the wider team in our busy summer period to manage the campaign for the Nevill Holt Festival.

    Either based in our London office or remotely you will develop and roll out the campaign strategy for the festival alongside our Head of Marketing and Communications, marketing officer and social media officer.

    Responsibilities include developing the campaign, budget management, deals with ticket agencies, hero artwork design and rollout, paid media planning and tracking, emails to Underbelly mailing lists, website management, brand partnership implementation, PR coordination and more depending on the campaign.

    You’ll be the key point of contact alongside the head of marketing and programming team for agencies – media, design, PR – as well as any producers and stakeholders involved in the project.

    We are looking for someone creative, diligent and a self-starter. We need someone to come in and hit the ground running heading into a busy summer period. There will be aspects of this role where you will be the main strategic lead, but there are also times when you need to be involved in the nitty-gritty tasks. No two days will be the same.

    Please be aware, there will be travel and a limited number of overnight stays required between 30 May and 22 June to Leicestershire.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Strategically develop full-scale marketing campaigns based on ticket and footfall targets, as well as set budget and timelines.
    • Attend regular meetings with internal and external teams to ensure the marketing campaigns perform to their maximum capacity.
    • Developing the existing brands you are responsible for, including evolving artwork and growing audiences to achieve key sales KPIs.
    • Work with external agencies – media, creative, design, and PR to roll out campaigns of high quality.
    • Working with the Social Media and Content Officer to create content to amplify your campaigns and grow these channels
    • Working with the press team to amplify earned media.
    • Working with our shows to maximise their coverage across Underbelly marketing channels.
    • Manage the relevant event websites.
    • Create and maintain the onsite signage of the festival or show you are managing in collaboration with the production department, creating assets in-house using Adobe Creative Suite where required.
    • Work with on-site teams to support the exemplary running of relevant spaces including box office, F&B, site management and technical staff.
    • Manage budgets effectively.


    THINGS WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    • An experienced marketer with good knowledge of full-scope marketing campaigns
    • A background in a ticket sale-focused environment such as events, festivals, live music, touring comedy/theatre and venues will be advantageous.
    • Very good digital marketing knowledge with the ability to set KPIs, targets and expectations for paid media campaigns. A plus if you’ve run these yourself!
    • Sales-focused with good analytical skills and the ability to interpret marketing analytics and make recommendations for improvements.
    • A keen interest in the live entertainment industry is a must.
    • Experience managing marketing budgets and tracking this to KPIs.
    • Awareness of London cultural sectors.
    • The ability to make recommendations on ticket pricing based on key show revenue targets.
    • High attention to detail is crucial as is strong copywriting skills.
    • Good knowledge and experience of social media, having created strong, engaging content
    • Creative thinker and problem solver.
    • Experience in a fast-paced environment and often pressurised environment.
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
    • Experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and film editing skills would be an advantage.
    • Experience using CMS-based websites.

Underbelly

Underbelly is a UK based live entertainment company. Its festivals and events division produces a number of events annually, including Underbelly at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Underbelly Festival in London.

Underbelly also produce Christmas in Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square in collaboration with Westminster City Council.
